€ 39,50
Alfred Bielschowsky worldwide still plays an important roll in ophthalmology and strabismology. Born in Namslau, Bielschowsky began his medical studies in nearby Wroclaw (former Breslau) and soon schwitched over to Heidelberg and then Berlin. Following his military service he specialised in ophthalmology in Leipzig .In 1912 he was appointed full professor of ophthalmology in Marburg, where he founded the institute for the Blind. In 1923 he became full professor of ophthalmology in Wroclaw. The political changes after 1933 and the start of the persecutions of the Jews in Germany forced Bielschowsky to continue his scientific career in the United States of America. There, with his companions, he laid the foundation on which large areas of strabismology could be further developed.
